Starting condition

The table coasted too long after stop commands, e-stop coverage did not extend along the full operator side, and changeover clamping depended on operator judgment. Insurance review was pending.

What was scoped

Mithril scoped a retrofit combining a VFD with braking control for the drive motor, rope-pull switches along the operator side, pneumatic clamping with a documented control sequence, and a safety-relay architecture suitable for later licensed review. Deliverables included parameter notes, an I/O summary, and a wiring package a field technician could service.

Outcome

Budget band: roughly $12,000–$16,000 including controls hardware. Duration: about six weeks end to end. The shop passed its follow-up review with the documented safety path in hand.

Why it matters to your machine

Safety retrofits do not require replacing good iron. Drive braking, rope-pulls, and clamping are additive changes that document well and satisfy reviewers when the wiring package is clean.
